Love is the supreme con game in this outrageously slick and sly Broadway sensation. Based on the popular 1988 film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels centers on two con men living on the French Riviera. Suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson and a small-time crook named Freddy Benson both make a lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. After attempting to work together, they discover that the small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate, wins and the other must leave town. Prepare to have your heart stolen in this hilariously clever take on the ultimate con! Written by Jeffrey Lane; Music and Lyrics by David Yazbek.  Presented by Broadway Rose Theatre Company.

Valley Art Gallery presents its July/August art show with Reduction Fired Pottery by Glenn Burris and Watercolor & Collage by Evelyn FritzGlenn Burris has been involved with clay and the making of pottery since 1968.  He earned an undergraduate degree in art from Pepperdine University and an MA and MFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa.  In the pursuit of his goals to become a ceramics professor at a university, he learned that he loved making things from clay and didn't love teaching.  Using a kick wheel or hand-building from slabs of soft porcelain - strong forms are his primary goal - his glazes are his own formulas and are developed by trial and error.  He tries to achieve a wide range of color and texture while maintaining a durable surface on his pots.  Evelyn Fritz works in oil, transparent watercolor, acrylic and mixed media - watercolor and collage.  A member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, she attended Portland Community College and received a scholarship to attend Sergei Bongard School of Art in Santa Monica, Calif.  She has taught at Portland, Chemeketa and Clatsop community colleges.  For two years she owned and operated a gallery in Cannon Beach.

Artist's Reception:  First Wednesday, July 1, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Art Exhibit: Dave Edgar, Julia Haack and Alan Rose
July 2, 2009 - July 29, 2009

Times: Monday - Thursday 9 am - 9 pm; Friday 9 am - 6 pm; Saturday 10 am - 4 pm
http://www.ci.hillsboro.or.us/Arts/WCAC/
Location:  Walters Cultural Arts Center - 527 E. Main Street, Hillsboro
Phone:  503-615-3485

A current of reflection, interaction and response between human and environment runs through this exhibit of contemporary art.  The paintings of Alan Rose whimsically detail human interaction.  There are odd abstract elements to his work that represent the personality of his subjects.  Seattle artist Julia Haack creates abstract sculpture that makes visual reference to furniture and architecture out of recycled and cast-off materials.  Having been fascinated by watching skyscrapers being built, Haack equates her sculpture to architecture and equates architecture to our bodies.

Painter Dave Edgar is showing two sides of his work at the Arts Center.  In the main exhibition he presents a new body of work called Tree Machines, abstracted images of metal trees impervious to damage from any angle.  The series was inspired by the artist witnessing a failed parachute jump and rescue in the woods.  The lower exhibition space features Edgar's series HMMWV landscapes, which are not as abstract and were inspired by his experiences as an Army Ranger.

An opening reception for all artists will be held on First Tuesday - July 7 - 6 p.m.
